We've (Brian and Jeremy) created a new app called 'Native Coding Help' which is available on BlackBerry World for purchase: www.appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/21797900/ as helpful guide to creating BB10 Cascades apps!

My first Cascades tutorial is about creating a simple Media Player to use for your own custome sound apps. I like the use of dropdowns to choose your own sounds, as the only sample I found online was using system sounds in a drop down I had to play a bit to get what I wanted. Hence this tutorial to make it easier on others. As this is my first tutorial, I am sure I may miss some things (don't crucify me, please). Now, lets get down to business.

I want to share this because I originally wanted to get into mobile app developing years ago but always got stuck after HelloWorld and didn't really know where to go next. I eventually figured it out and part of me making a blog was to prevent others from struggling early on like I did. I hope this helps anyone who ends up in a similar situation not give up.

My developer skill set lies in web development, and that is where I am most comfortable. That being said, after attending Jam Americas in San Jose, I began dabbling with the BlackBerry 10 NDK and with Cascades. I am now a believer and advocate for utilizing the Cascades UI framework on BlackBerry 10.
This post is the first in a series of blog posts that will detail how to implement features that are most commonly needed in a mobile application. All the posts in this series will be based on my experience taking my Space TV app for PlayBook (WebWorks application) and porting it using QML/Cascades to the upcoming BlackBerry 10 handsets.
Space TV for PlayBook has been downloaded over 15,000 times since launching in App World in mid August, 2012, and with Cascades “frosting” I expect even more success with this application on BB10.
Each post in this series will feature code samples and a detailed tutorial, so let’s get started.
