(UPDATED) BIS Services now being Restored

RIM has resolved the problem causing millions of subscribers across the globe to be without properly functioning  BIS services for the last couple of days.

The problem? A core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure was the culprit. I am sure RIM is just as happy as the affected users that the problem has been isolated and resolved.

UPDATE (from BerryReview):

According to RIM the:

“transition to a backup switch did not function as tested, causing a large backlog of data… RIM said it is now working to clear the backlog and restore normal service as soon as possible.”

Update #2

Further Clarification from RIM:

"The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated, and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we will continue to keep you informed."
