Changing Playbook Icons - Android ICS Icon set download

People first started swapping out the icons on their Playbook almost immediately after Dingleberry was released. It's actually a fairly easy process, one that anyone who's managed to obtain root access and setup Winscp or another SSH client should be able to handle.

I believe the first tutorial was written by Sith_Apprentice on Crackberry. At any rate, the concept is simple - all you do is find an icon you like, SSH into your rooted Playbook, open /apps/(folder for the app you want to change the icon of), and replace the icon with a quick drag and drop. Fairly simple process.

This morning I decided to load some Android Ice Cream Sandwich Icons onto my Playbook. Rather than simply load them and have that be the end of it, I decided to set it up so that everyone could do the same.

Instructions:

0: Root your playbook and access your /apps/ folder with Winscp or another SSH program.

1. Download the Android ICS Playbook Icons.zip. Multiupload isn't working for me at the moment, so you can download it from

http://www.scrapps.tk/blackberry/playbook/Android%20ICS%20Playbook%20Icons.zip

2. Unzip the folder. You'll notice four things inside it: folders named "ICS" and "STOCK" and a wallpaper and a screenshot. Open the ICS folder.

3. Unfortunately the Playbook renames the directories of all the apps installed so this can't be done as a simple drag-drop of every folder. You'll have to do it one folder at a time.

4. Open the folder for an app from the ICS folder on your desktop. Drag the folder inside it into the corresponding app folder in your Playbook filesystem.

5. Do this for all the icons, and reboot.

6. If you want to use the ICS wallpaper, just put it into the photos folder on your Playbook and set it as the wallpaper.

That's it. If you every want to go back to stock icons, just do the same thing with the icons from the Stock folder.

Eventually I plan to do the same thing with iOS, OSX Lion, Faenza, webOS, and the OS6 icons, but I'll need to find time for that. That being said, feel free to use the folder structure and icon names to create other iconsets and post them in the OpenSourceBB Forums!

Enjoy your new icons!
