Backups, backups, backups. Probably one of the most important things we need to do with our Blackbery. How you backup your device information is up to you. RIM offers several options for you to save all that precious information that you store on your phone; Desktop Manager, Blackberry Protect and now with the newest 7.0 and 7.1 operating systems, Device Switch app built into your phone.
The Device Switch app has became my favorite way of doing backups for my device since I bought my Bold 9930.
Yes, it backs up the exact same information as Desktop Manager. The entire device can be backed up including theme settings service books etc. But, backing up this way as opposed to using Desktop Manager has several advantages.
1) Speed: the backup goes faster as you do not have to connect your device to your computer and wait for it to connect to DM
2) Convenience: you can back up your device anywhere, anytime. No computer needed.
3) You always have a backup: Because it saves to your SD card. So, no matter when you need it you're always ready.
The only drawback I see to backing up/restore using this feature on the device is that you can not do a selective backup/restore.
You can view what is backed up.
