Dingleberry now allows you to Theme your Playbook!

Yesterday the BNXTreme Team released Dingleberry 3.2.1, which has a few user-friendly updates and finally lets you do something that I've wanted to do with the Playbook for a long time: Theming.

Credit goes to xsacha for this one. (Sad story - he spent probably a good 30-40 minutes helping me before I finally realized how to do a simple script to make this work).

The technical explanation is something like this: the new Dingleberry exploit allows you to run custom scripts before your OS fully boots. One of the custom scripts you can run is a command to substitute your own custom images for images depended on by the theme.

Example: we can use a custom command to substitute the WiFi icons for the 4G icons included in the Playbook theme.

Hit the full article for instructions on how to do it!

Note that this tutorial assumes you know how to root your Playbook and gain SSH access. Any damage you do to your Playbook is due to your own mistakes, and not the fault of OSBB or anyone else.

Again, full credit to xSacha and the BNXTreme team for this one.

1. Download Dingleberry 3.2.1 (or newer) from Dingleberry.it

2. If you're not already, downgrade to Playbook OS 2.0.0.6149 or older and re-Dingle (to get all the new Dingleberry features).

3. Modify the start.sh file in /accounts/devuser. Insert the following code:

NAV=/apps/sys.navigator/assets/1024_600
for i in 1 2 3 4; do
    ln -sPf ${NAV}/4g-LTE_$(expr $i + 1)_bars_sm.png ${NAV}/wifi_${i}.png
done

Alternatively, you can download a premodified start.sh from HERE and overwrite the existing start.sh in /accounts/devuser.

4. Reboot. You should now have the 4G icon in place of your WiFi icon, just like in the screenshot!

(The Android icons in the above screenshot are not from this method; instructions for that can be found at http://opensourcebb.com/2012/01/changing-playbook-icons-android-ics-icon-set-download/)
