Install BB10 OS 10.0.10.261 onto your Dev Alpha (or Zed10)

 

If you, like me, are a developer who was lucky enough to get a BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha but isn’t in an area that has the Zed10 available for purchase yet, you can still enjoy all the awesomeness that is BlackBerry 10!

This morning, our good buddy xSacha leaked an autoloader for BlackBerry 10 OS onto the CrackBerry Forums. For some reason, xSacha released the slightly older 10.0.0.9.2372.

Now, that OS download will work on your Dev Alpha, and install full BlackBerry 10 on it. And let me say, it’s pretty freaking awesome.

However, after xSacha’s work, and in part thanks to some inspiration from CB forum member borceg, an even newer full BB10 OS is available, and works perfectly on the Dev Alpha as well!

CAUTION! MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CORRECT INSTALLER. OSBB IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS YOU HAVE AS A RESULT OF INSTALLING THIS SOFTWARE!

This installer has been .zipped to reduce it’s size (by some 500mb or so), which should make it easier to download. So far all BB10 features seem to be working on my Dev Alpha A, and on another OSBB member’s Dev Alpha B. For some reason it prints your pin on the sides of the device if you have a Dev Alpha A, but IMO that’s a small price to pay to get full BB10.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Download the OS. Because of the way mega.co.nz is set up, you’ll probably need Google Chrome to do that.

2. Unzip it.

3. Connect your Dev Alpha to your PC.

4. Run the .exe. You might need to do a hard shut down of your Dev Alpha (hold the power button), disconnect it from your PC, and connect it again.

5. Let it install and go through the setup.

NOTE! If you are presented with an OS update during setup, Skip it!

A few other older OS Autoloaders are also there, and will be added to the OSBB BB10 OS Download list soon.

    Just an FYI: tried this on a Z10 from Telus and now I’m stuck with a screen that says “Incompatible Radio Image Loaded on Device” and can’t reload so I don’t think this works for it :( (im)patiently awaiting the official OS .exe

      why would you do that…. the actual Z10 has bb10 OS already, dev alpha’s do not & that’s the only reason it makes sense to try it out on them

    works like a dream except you still can’t change the APN so you can’t use phone outside of a wifi network. the phone is useless without roaming data ability.
    Any way to crack that?

    Works like a charm! Moved it back to the Official DevAlpha build and it was all fine! Totally recommended for everyone with a DevAlpha

    does anyone have a problem with their mobile network data service?
    Mine sometime the data just stop working ,but the icon on the top right still show H (BB logo) 5 bar. Need to turn off and on the mobile network and it will work again. It keep going into this loop. Anyone know how to fix?

    I’ve updated my OS and it turns out the following app cannot be opened:
    -picture,
    -video
    -music
    -voice control
    -print to go
    -adobe reader
    -youtube

    Anybody else experiencing the same thing?

    in point 4: when do I need to hard shut down the device? The bb goes back to the original dev alpha after resetting. Nothing changes.

    Recently won Dev Alpha B at a tech meetup. For some reason it only had a a few things on it, could not even find a clock app. Loaded .261 and everything is peachy now! Thanks for the tip.

    Dear Sir, I purchased by BB Z10 from Doha Qatar yesterday and this morning while performing SECURITY WIPE with Charger plugged in, I found that the devide is stuck with a loga (USB, MONITOR & MOBILE) on the screen. Please help. I tried RELOAD using Blackberry Link but It does not detects my device. I also downloaded the Autoload.10.0.10.261.0x8400240a.0x8500240a.0x8700240a.exe but it also did not worked, i attached a pic of it, somebody please help me to overcome this error.
    My Z 10 Model No and Hardware ID as below.
